I like broccoli but I LOVE Chinese broccoli. I don’t know what it is, but I find the flavor milder (even though when you read about it, it says its more bitter). You can do a simple prep and just steam it and drizzle oyster sauce over it and it’s delish! But some folks don’t like oyster sauce, so here’s an alternate prep.
Ingredients:
1 lb Chinese Broccoli cut into thirds
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tbsp minced ginger
2 tbsp soy sauce
1/2 tbsp Chinese black vinegar
1 tbsp roasted sesame oil
1/2 tbsp corn starch
2 tbsp water
Preparation:
Blanch chinese broccoli in salted boiling water for about 3 minutes and drain. In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, vinegar and sesame oil. In another small bowl, add cornstarch and water to make a slurry and set aside. Then in a large pan, heat a teaspoon of vegetable oil over medium high heat, sauté garlic and ginger for one minute, then add sauce, cornstarch slurry and bring to a boil, then add in the broccoli and toss to coat with the sauce. Serve hot with steamed rice.
